Certification Renewal Information

Certification lasts for three (3) years and expires on December 31 of the third year, regardless of the month in which you attained your initial certification. The Association sends renewal notices via email.

Last year, 99% of the renewal applications were  . . . APPROVED! Congratulations, certificants!

Renewal News for 2018:

Were you last certified in 2015? If so, you are due to renew this year--and we have good news for you! Your CE accrual start date now is tailored to YOU!

The earlier you certified (either by exam or renewal) in 2015, the more time you have to accrue CE. Now, your CE start date for renewal will be the earlier of either:

  • November 2, 2015 or
  • the date on your official letter of congratulations from IAFN for certification (by either exam or CE).

Check the date on your IAFN letter. Can't find your letter? Simply:

1.      Go to

2.     Click “Certification” and choose “IAFN Certified Nurses”

3.     Select the appropriate certification and search for yourself

4.     Look for the "SANE Certification Start Date" for the certification you are renewing. Note the date to list on your application--and feel free to use any appropriate CE from that date forward!
